In 2024, Moving Intelligence will celebrate its 25th anniversary. From the very start, we have been working on smart solutions to track vehicles, not only for security but also for trip logging and fleet management.
Through a number of key developments, we will show where we stand now and how we got here.
Tec(h)nocon
Technology Concepts, that was the slogan of Tecnocon, as Moving Intelligence started in 1999. Indeed, without the letter ‘h.’ There was already a company with the name Technocon. In 2007, we became Technocon, with an ‘h.’ In the early years, we developed a system that met the requirements of insurance companies, a system that was already installed in thousands of vehicles. In 2008, we moved to the office along the A2 highway in Zaltbommel.
Our own box: Mi50
The foundation of the current Moving Intelligence tracking system is the Mi50. Under the working title Retreever MK3, we began developing hardware in-house in 2009 to solve previous issues (technology, cost, reliability, regulations) and ensure it is always online. When we launched the Retreever MK3, we were called Moving Intelligence, and our product names started with ‘Mi.’
The Mi50 – described by its creators as our ultimate product – receives various updates and accessories over time, always meeting the latest high standards from customers, partners, and insurers, both domestically and internationally. This ranges from driving behavior analysis based on G-forces to listening in during hijacks, from live tracking to connecting with the immobilizer and disabling blockages via Bluetooth. Or something relatively simple, like a Y-splitter in the cables to significantly reduce installation time. Plus, CO2 reporting, driver identification, geofencing, and the ability to switch between 2G and 4G/LTE networks. On average, we release a new version of the Mi50 a little less than once a year. And all made in the Netherlands.
Tracing with Peilzender Mi01
Around 2014, the market expressed a need for a wireless trackin system. We developed a slim tracker with its own battery that can last at least three years. The Mi01 transmits the location once a day. After a theft, we can increase this to once an hour, allowing us to recover 94% of stolen vehicles equipped with an Mi01. We now offer the Mi01 as a Peilzender (tracking transmitter), and it has been approved by Kiwa in Class TV. A variant of the Peilzender is named after its distant cousin: Retreever. We install the Peilzender and Retreever in cars, campers, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, classic cars, and heavy equipment.
Recovery
Our own recovery service takes action when a vehiclie is stolen. The Recovery Service traces the vehicle and secures it. We have already recovered many (commercial) cars and other vehicles this way, throughout Europe and sometimes even beyond. A relief for both the owners and insurers.
Further developments
In 2023, Europetrack and SlimmGPS merged with Moving Intelligence, enabling us to offer complete solutions for fleet management and trip registration. In 2024, Echoes will be added, allowing us to assist fleet managers and administrators without the need for hardware installation.
Currently, more than 400,000 vehicles are connected to a Moving Intelligence system, and the number keeps growing. With further developments in-house and offices in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, we continue to build Moving Intelligence and smart solutions for vehicle security, trip registration, and fleet management.
